The Global
Credit Crunch: Changing Lifestyles Forever?
The global credit crunch
is seen as a huge negative for every industry around the world, but for some consumers
it could mean even more. All over the world, people are finding their everyday
lifestyle forever changed thanks to the current economic crisis. While
the American economy takes an overall downward spiral that many experts are comparing
to the great depression and other economies around the world follow suit, it should
not be a surprise that the global credit crunch is changing the way people carry
out their lives. When everyone becomes seriously concerned not only that they
will not be able to obtain credit in the future but that the stock market and
many of the largest businesses in the world may collapse, the way they spend their
money starts to change. When they begin to change the
way they spend money, it affects the rest of their life all the way down to what
they eat for dinner and what time they go to bed. The global credit crunch is
in the process of potentially changing the lifestyles of millions of people. There
are many trends consumers around the world are following, all a result of the
global credit crunch and economic turmoil in the most propserous countries of
the world. The most obvious trend is that more and more
people are now being forced to live within the limits of their income. It has
become common for many people to live well above their actual means, paying for
the excess with credit cards. Now that lenders are tightening up with the easy
money people are starting to spend less money and pay for what they can afford
in cash. When Christmas rolls around it is very likely
there will be less under the tree for a lot of families. This is a conscious decision
many parents are making since the credit crunch has made using plastic to pay
for elaborate gifts less enticing. People are cutting back on spending in every
category, from clothing to Starbucks. While the banks limit who they lend to in
order to protect themselves, consumers are doing the same by limiting purchases.
While many people simply have less money these days due
to massive job losses, others are packing the money they choose not to spend into
savings accounts or stashing it in their homes. With the economy becoming unpredictable
and downright scary to many people, they are saving any extra income instead of
rushing out to the malls to shop it away. All of this
means people are also not moving about as much as they used to. More people are
choosing to stay at home, throw ball with the kids in the front yard, or just
spend more time with close family and friends. There of course are many people
who go on with life as usual despite the global credit crunch, but there is a
growing number of people who are staying at home and stashing their money. They
are watching the nightly news and waiting to see what will come next. This
is how the global credit crunch has managed to change the everyday lifestyle of
millions of people. In the United States in particular, life is slowing down from
the usual fast paced bustle of getting from here to there without a second to
spare. People are tightening up the wallet in response to the economic downturn
and those who have depended on credit cards to finance what they really could
not afford are now forced to cut back further or find a second job |
