Your Diet
In A Credit Crunch: Stay Healthy For Less
When the price of all
goods and services skyrocket, the hardest expense for people to swallow is food.
It is possible to feed your body the nutrients it needs to function properly,
even during a credit crunch. Since most of Americans
have been dieting for most of their lives to maintain their youthful curves, we
all know the importance of a healthy diet. Weight loss has become a billion dollar
a year business thanks to millions of people battling the pounds, but that may
be about to change as we continue in a credit crunch that brings a continuing
increase in food prices. The complaint of many overweight
people for years has been that healthy foods are more expensive than fattening,
junk foods. This complaint is only growing stronger as the country slips in a
credit crunch that makes almost all food prices skyrocket. The
good news is there are ways to trim your expanding food expense at the same time
you trim your waist. An economy struggling in a credit crunch does not necessarily
mean that you have to give in to whatever happens to be the cheapest buy at any
given time. There are ways to beat the crunch and feed your body the nutrients
it really needs to function properly. Cut The Junk If
you elmiinate all of the junk food from your grocery cart, you will free up money
to offset the price of healthier options. Most people trying to eat healthy take
a look at how much fresh produce costs compared to processed veggies cooked into
fattenting frozen entrees and think they can't afford to prepare their own meals.
This is because they are only comparing the cost of two very different products,
without figuring in how much money they can actually save by not buying the junk
foods. If you routinely buy potato chips, cookies, and
the cheapest white bread available because it is cheaper than produce, then you
need to rethink that logic. Potato chips may be cheaper than tomatoes, but they
are also not essential to your survival. You can go without potato chips in order
to free up money to offset the cost of healthier foods. Learn
Proper Servings Most of the serving sizes we are served
in restaraunts and prepare for ourselves are enough for three or four people!
This is the perfect time to learn proper portin control in order to stretch you
food supplies over a lot more meals. This is the basic principle behind hundreds
of diet books lining our shelves, but being in a credit crunch could possibly
be more valuable to our waistlines than reading those pages. You
may feel you are not eating enough at first, but in time you can retrain your
body to eat for one. Do It Yourself The
trend of planting backyard gardens is booming since we sunk in a credit crunch
that has made produce so expensive. Even if you do not have space in your yard
to put in a garden, you can grown many vegetables right on your porch or deck
in pots. Many businesses will give you large buckets for free which make perfect
pots for tomatoes and other vegetables. Growing your own produce also eliminates
worry over pesticides and other chemicals that are sprayed on a lot of store bought
produce. If you do not want the hassle of growing your
own vegetables, then find your local farmers market and support your local farmer.
They are struggling just as much in a credit crunch as anyone else, if not more
so. |
